Choosing a Qualified Practitioner
One of the best ways to find a qualified chiropractor is by personal or professional recommendation. Many Doctors have specific chiropractors or a Chiropractic network they refer their patients to. Friends, family, and coworkers who are satisfied patients should also be more than happy to refer their chiropractor.
When finding a chiropractor, do not be afraid to ask for an informal interview to see the facility and equipment, and to see if you are comfortable with his/her approach and attitude towards your health. As is the case with other Doctors or people in general, with some we feel comfortable and feel an immediate rapport, and with others we do not.
If after a period of 2 weeks you have notice no change at all in your level of pain and mobility, or your conditions has become worse, then consider seeking treatment from another chiropractor or considering that your Chiropractic treatment is not sufficient to treat your condition.
Many countries have established guidelines to regulate Chiropractic. Within the U. S., it is officially regulated in every state. Links are provided for you to verify licensure by name or license number.
Within the U. .K, it is considered a criminal offence to practice Chiropractic treatments without being registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The GCC was established by parliament to regulate, develop, and promote the Chiropractic profession.
It is vital that the chiropractor who treats you is properly trained and qualified. The following are questions to ask in identifying how qualified and reliable a chiropractor is:
1. Ask the chiropractor how many years of training they've had, and how long they've been practicing. Chiropractic school typically involves 3-4 years of education.
2. Ask for information about people that they have treated with your condition before, and for details on how the treatments progressed.
3. Ask if they have indemnity insurance (to cover them, and you, if anything happens).
4. Depending on which country you are located in, ask if they are licensed (see above to verify license numbers within the U. S. and U. K.)
