What Special Equipment is Needed?
Althought the hands are a main staple used in Chiropractic work, a chiropractor also uses a variety of equipment to assist in diagnosis and performing adjustments:
Chiropractic TableChiropractic tables can range in complexity from a simple massage table (sometimes portable) to hydraulically controlled tables which will position the patient at the desired height. The table has an opening for the face for when the patient lies face down. Flexion/distraction examination tables are also used which allow the chiropractor range of motion not possible with other tables.
Chiropractic chairs can also be used which offer similar functionalilty.
X-Ray Machine
An x-ray machine is used in during the initial consultation to take a full set of x-rays. These x-rays will assist in diagnosis and help determine any musculoskeletal abnormalities and the cause of restricted movement.
Activator Instruments
The Activator Methods Chiropracic Technique (AMCT) uses small, spring-loaded instruments to delivey a quick, yet low force correction that does not in any way cause strain to the patient. For this reason, it is often used on children and the elderly.
Spinalator
A spinalator is a special table used by chiropractors. The patient lies flat on the table on their back and a massage roller moves up and down the patient's body. The roller can be elevated to provide more of a spinal stretch. Often patients will use a spinalator for several minutes before a Chiropractic treatment to help relax and loosen the spine.
