Bioenergetic Therapy as a Career

Bioenergetic therapy is considered an alternative healing technique which is slowly gaining more visibility as clients experience its effectiveness in treating a variety of conditions. It is often incorporated to compliment a variety of other healing therapies such as reiki, acupressure, acupuncture and quantum touch.

Many bioenergetic analysis training programs are only open to psychologists, counselors, psychiatric nurses, social workers, graduate students, and other professionals in the health and psychotherapy field.

Bioenergetic therapists may practice out of their homes, travel to their client's homes, or work in a medical office offering similar healing modalilties.  Such flexibility offers great appeal.

Bioenergetic Therapy Certification & Licensing
There is no recognized licensing board, although various associations offer certifications which involve schooling of several years.  One of the most recognized certifications is offered by the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA).

Salary
No studies on the earnings of bioenergetic therapists have been conducted to date.  The fees you charge for bioenergetic therapy will depend on where you live, whether you work out of your own home or out of your clients home or have an office, and how many sessions you conduct per week.

The typical hourly rate for bioenergetic therapy varies between $70-$120. If you are working independently and using a room within a medical office or similar facility, a percentage of the hourly fee may be taken.  If you work as an employee, you will typically be paid a flat fee for each session, ranging from $50 and up per hour.  If you are in a private practice, all profits are yours (minus taxes and any expenses).

Many bioenergetic therapists combine this form of therapy with other energy healing modalities such as reiki, acupuncture and acupressure. Being that it is unrealistic to perform 40 hours of bioenergetic therapy per week, therapists may deliver 10 - 25 hours of or more.

As you build your clientele, many will visit regularly for treatment and/or maintenance. Offering referral discounts will assist in expanding your clientele and spreading the word on your services.

Average Length of Study
Bioenergetic therapists typically undergo a 4-5 year training course that consists of a specified number of hours of training therapy including traditional psychotherapy (as recognized by the medical industry), a series of training workshops and another 50 hours of personal supervision under a qualified bioenergetic trainer.

Average Tuition
Tuition varies greatly depending on the school, and can range from $3,000 to over $12,000 for certifications depending on the level of certification desired.
