How Does Bioenergetic Therapy Work?

Bioenergetic therapy helps to release emotional conflicts through its integrated whole-body approach.

Bioenergetic therapy does not focus on curing the symptoms of disease, but rather in assisting the energy to flow more freely within the body to release the original cause of the imbalance and ultimately dissolving the disease.

The bioenergetic therapist offers clients a way of understanding themselves by calling attention to sensations, feelings, tone of voice, posture, and muscle tension.  The client is then led to a greater understanding and awareness of old patterns of action and reaction.  This understanding, combined with various techniques to release emotions causing the energy blockages, enables clients to ultimately heal themselves and discover, experience and express a wider range of feelings rather than engage in emotional repression.

The goal of bioenergetic therapy is to trigger the emotional issues creating the energy blockage and stimulate the release of these blockages to restore the body to its natural balance.

In bioenergetic therapy, special attention is given to both grounding and breathing:

Grounding is to have a sense of identity, a security in who we are, and a connection with your environment.  When an individual is ungrounded, there is often a sensation of feeling “spaced out” or detatched from people and surroundings.  This can be lead to a variety of issues including memory loss, absent mindedness and feeling fearful.

Breathing is also intimately connected to our emotional state. When we experience an emotional disturbance, often we hold our breath and tense our muscles, which may lead to a disturbance in the breathing pattern.  By encouraging full, deep breathing, the therapist assists the client in triggering the release of emotions and memories which originally caused the energetic disturbances.  This trigger may causes the sudden release of chronic muscular tensions and pain.
