How Does Chromatherapy Work?
The human body emits a field of electromagnetic energy which, when balanced, efficiently conducts energy and maintains the organs and various systems of the body via a complex network of energy channels (meridians) through which the energy flows. These meridians are controlled by 7 main energy centers (known as “chakras”) in specific locations throughout the body (see image below).
Each chakra has a specific subtle energy vibration which is also the vibration of a specific color. Chromatherapy is used to activate each chakra and stimulate the flow of energy through the energy meridians by the use of the appropriate color.Using a variety of methods, specific colors are projected into specific regions of the body via the acupointsSpecific points where the energy field is closest to the surface of the skin on the energy meridians, the reflexology zones and directly into the chakras. Each color/chakra possesses a specific vibrational frequency that resonates with the organs and systems of the body associated with that chakra. By matching the vibrational frequency of the appropriate color to the corresponding vibrational frequency within the organs and systems of the body via the energy meridians, color can strengthen or sedate energy distressed areas. Acupuncture and acupressure are based on the same principles, using needles and pressure respectively, rather than using color.
By focusing the vibration of a specific color, healing is facilitated through the process of “resonance” and “entrainment,” causing the color to resonate and entrain with the systems and organs of the body associated with that color.
| Chakra | Location | Color | Related system |
| Base | Root of tailbone | Red | Adrenal gland |
| Sacral | Below the navel | Orange | Ovaries/testes |
| Solar Plexus | Above the navel | Yellow | Pancreas |
| Heart | Heart, between breasts | Green | Thymus gland |
| Throa | Throat | Blue | Thyroid gland |
| Brow/Third Eye | Center of forehead | Indigo | Pituitary gland |
| Crown | Top of head | Violet | Pineal gland |
Resonance
When two systems vibrate at different frequencies, there is a force called “resonance” that causes the two to transfer energy to one another.
Entrainment
When two similarly tuned systems vibrate at different frequencies, it is entrainment which causes them to line up and to vibrate at the same frequency. In entrainment, things align their movement and energy together to match in rhythm and phase.
When two things vibrate at different frequencies, either the lower vibration will raise, the higher vibration will lower or they will meet at mid-point. Similar to tuning a musical instrument such as a guitar, the vibration of each color tunes specific locations of the body which relate directly to that frequency.
Light can emit visible light frequencies as well as frequencies beyond our visible perception. Light from the visible spectrum, infrared and ultraviolet are used in chromatherapy.
