Reflexology

Choosing A Qualified Practitioner

Within the U. S., there are specific requirements for some states, cities or counties where Reflexology is practiced.  The Reflexology Association of America offers a summary of state laws to aid you in determining licensing requirements for Reflexology in your state (current as of Q2 2008).

To our knowledge, Reflexology in other countries is not regulated.

It is important that the reflexologist who treats you is properly trained and qualified.  The following are questions to ask in identifying how qualified and reliable a therapist is:

1. Ask the therapist how many years of training they have had and how long they have been practicing

2. Ask if they have treated people with your condition before and for details on how the treatments progressed

3. Ask if they have indemnity insurance (to cover them, and you, if anything goes wrong)

4. If in the U. S., ask if they are certified by the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB).  This certification requires passing the three-part ARCB examination (written, practical, and documentation) and demonstrates that the practitioner has met national standards for skill and knowledge in the field of Reflexology
