Reiki as a Career

As most Reiki practitioners do not perform 40 hours of therapy per week, the building of clientele through referrals is very important and will assist in predicting income from month to month. It may be easier to develop the practice by renting space at a spa or medical office which will assist with advertising. With time and patience as the practice builds, Reiki therapists can earn upwards of $50,000 or more.

Many Reiki Masters also provide teaching to others, thereby increasing their income potential.

Average Length of Study
The length of study for traditional Reiki will range from 1-2 days for Reiki Degree 1, to 1-2 days for Reiki Degree II, and will vary considerably for Reiki Degree III (which can range from a few days to up to an extended apprenticeship of one year). There are some Reiki Masters who offer all three degrees in a single week of training but this is uncommon. Students need time to adjust to the new knowledge and attunement, and also experience hands-on practice with Reiki. Reiki Master training typically requires an extended apprenticeship.

Average Tuition
Reiki can be taught at a Reiki school, healing arts center, or through Reiki Master private instruction. Costs can vary considerably, with Degree 1 appearing to average $100-200 and degree II averaging $150-$500. Degree III is more expensive and can range from the hundreds to the thousands of dollars.

As Reiki is not regulated, research of the school and Reiki Master (including their lineage) is recommended. The traditional charge for attaining Degree III and receiving the teaching and attunements for becoming a Reiki Master is $10,000, as set by Hawayo Takata. This amount is said demonstrate the commitment of the practitioner to Reiki as a way of life. Though some Reiki Masters still follow this tradition, others charge a much lesser sum, some under $1,000.
