Choosing a Qualified Practitioner
There is no formal regulation of Reiki and, depending on the practitioner, there are many approaches to training and various networks and affiliations that have been created to establish consistency. Training is primary through private, non-accredited schools which provide a certificate of completion.
Various healthcare facilities and clinics have nurses, physical therapists, and massage therapists which compliment their form of therapy with Reiki.
It is important that the Reiki practitioner who treats you is properly trained and qualified. The following are questions to ask in identifying how qualified and reliable a therapist is:
1. Ask the therapist how many years of training they've had and how long they've been practicing.
2. Ask if they have treated people with your condition before and for details on how the treatments progressed.
3. Ask if they have indemnity insurance (to cover them, and you, if anything happens).
4. There are three degree levels, or "attunements," which practitioners receive from studying with a Reiki Master. First degree level typically requires two days of training. Second degree level requires the completion of the first degree, two additional days of training, and the practice of Reiki for at least three months. Those achieving third degree level are considered a Reiki Master which requires the practice of second degree Reiki for at least one year. Reiki Masters are also qualified to teach other Reiki practitioners. Ask how many degree levels your practitioner has achieved and any if certifications have been received.
