Energy Psychology

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy Psychology is a synthesis of conventional psychology with the Eastern energy techniques of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Techniques used in TCM are based on the concept that disease, mental, physical, and emotional distress are reflected by an imbalance in the flow of "vital energy" in the body.  The perspective from which an Energy Psychologist heals is based on concepts of vital energy (also known as subtle energy, "qi" in Japan or "chi" in China) and the energetic system of the body. Vital energy flows through 12 energy channels (merdians) which run throughout the body and which are connected to the organs and systems of the body. Along these energy meridians, are acupressure points (acupoints) which is where the energy runs closes to the surface of the skin.

The techniques used in Energy Psychology are based on both an understanding of clinical psychology and on working with the energy flow of the body. The Energy Psychologist assesses the flow and distribution of vital energy, and then normalizes any blockages or disruption to this flow by stimulating various acupoints, while the patient simultaneously focuses on on the emotional distress. When the energy flow is reestablished, symptoms of emotional distress will be come normalized.

Energy Psychology can be used to treat many issues, including:

- Guilt, Fear, Anger, Jealousy, Irritability and other destructive emotions
- Behavioral Patterns, Addictions, Bad Habits
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Grief, Painful Memories, Trauma
- Anxiety, Depression, Sadness
- Phobias, Fears
- Insecurity, Low Self Esteem, Limiting Beliefs
- Burnout, Exhaustion
- Relationship Difficulties

During an Energy Psychology session, energy shifts can rapidly occur to cause relief from debilitating conditions, sometimes within minutes depending on the condition(s). More frequently, several sessions are required.

Energy Psychology is unique in that its core strategy combines the stimulation of the vital energy system (by stimulating acupoints) with a clear verbal association of whatever is causing the trauma or stressful situation. When the acupoints are stimulated while verbalizing the emotional distress, this can leads treatment outcomes can be much more rapid rapid and powerful than other commonly used techniques such as relaxation, desensitization, mindfulness, or repeated exposure. There are also energetic healing methods which do not use a psychological approach, including Acupuncture, Acupressure, Reiki, Reflexology, Quantum Touch, Aromatherapy, and others.

Compared with traditional psychological treatment such as psychoanalysis, psychiatry, and behavioral approaches, Energy Psychology results are considered much quicker. When working directly with the energy flow of the body in combination with a traditional psychological approach, the results can be amazing. Changes can occur within minutes of a treatment, and with profound transformation experienced. As with other therapies, the resolving of one issue can trigger the resolving other issues which are related to or stem from the original issue.
