Energy Psychology

Energy Psychology as a Career

In the United States, training and certification in Energy Psychology is offered through the Association For Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP). The ACEP is an internationally recognized non-profit organization of licensed mental health professionals and allied energy health practitioners who are dedicated to developing and applying Energy Psychology methods for the treatment of those suffering from emotional challenges.

To become an ACEP member, evidence must be provided of a valid license, certification, or registration as a mental health professional providing services independently or in a recognized institutional setting. Certification in Energy Psychology is also offered (see below)

Health insurance companies are becoming more and more willing to cover the cost of mental health therapies, usually providing the practitioner is a licensed mental health care specialist. This would include psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and similar mental health fields. Energy Psychologists extend conventional training with the additional training of using energy therapy techniques.

Some Energy Psychologists who are not licensed mental health specialists but who have undergone substantial training in Energy Psychology techniques may also operate under the license and supervision of another Doctor. This assists in the flexibility of accepting health insurance plans.

Energy Psychology Certification & Licensing

Certification in Energy Psychology is offered through the Association For Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) which is an internationally recognized body. Application and certification requirements are as follows:

  Application Requirements:

  1. Completion of the certification application to obtain exams for the home study modules. A fee of $150 is charged for ACEP members, and $250 for non-members.

  2. For "Diplomate, Comprehensive Energy Psychology" (DCEP) Certification: Provide evidence of a valid license, certification or registration as a mental health professional providing services independently or in a recognized institutional setting.

  4. Documentation of at least two years experience as a practitioner in your field. A notarized document attesting to this fact is sufficient proof.

  Certification Requirements:

  1. Completion of the ACEP-approved Distance Learning Program, and successful passing an exam for each of the 11 modules for DCEP or 13 modules for CEHP.

  2. Completion of the ACEP-approved three-day certification workshop, currently $450. For CEHP Candidates, the one-day Client Care & Facilitation Skills seminar is also required for $150.

  3. Documentation of having completed a minimum of 20 hours of consultation from an ACEP Certification Consultant. This cost will vary depending on the consultant, with the estimated cost ranging from $1,500 to $3,000.

Salary

Little data appears to be available on the average salaries of Energy Psychologists. Average fees charged for a session range from $80-$120 per hour. As the practice and clientele builds via referrals and through accepting patients through insurance plans (especially if your practice can be supervised by a licensed Doctor), income can easily exceed $100,000/yr.

Average Length of Study

Length of study depends on which mental health care discipline is chosen (e.g. psychology, psychiatry, or psychotherapy). In addition, and Energy Psychology certification by the ACEP has rather stringent requirements involving the completion of study modules and clinical experience, and which spans several months or longer. Further training in Energy Psychology techniques is also required which ranges from weeks to months, depending on which methods are studied and the dedication with which they are studied.

Average Tuition

Tuition ranges based on what path is chosen in the mental healthcare field. In addition to this, certification from the ACEP averages from $3,000-$4,000. Additional training for each Energy Psychology technique ranges from the hundreds to the thousands of dollars.
