Choosing a Qualified Practitioner
Although is no official regulating body for Energy Psychology, the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) is the world's largest organization for Energy Psychologists. The ACEP offers several certification programs in Energy Psychology. Various levels of membership are also offered. A "regular U. S. membership" requires practitioners to be licensed mental health professionals or the international equivalent. They must be engaged in the treatment of emotional distress by using Energy Psychology techniques. They may also be engaged in facilitating the clearing of emotional distress or assisting with peak performance through using methods of Energy Psychology.
The following are questions to ask in identifying how qualified your Energy Psychologist is:
1. Ask the Energy Psychologist how many years of training they've had, and how long they've been practicing.
2. Ask if they have treated people with your condition before, and for details on how the treatments progressed.
3. Ask if they have indemnity insurance (to cover them, and you, if anything happens).
4. Ask if they are certified by a nationally or internationally recognized body such as the ACEP.
As Energy Psychologists are typicaly licenced health care professionals (psychologists, psychotherapists, etc.) who have chosen to extend their education into this emerging energy therapy, treatments may also be covered by health insurance plans. Ask in advance if your insurance is accepted, and if so, verify what what degree. Some insurance plans cover mental healh treatments up to a percent, e.g. 50% or 70% and up to a certain number of treatments per calendar year.
There are several common techniques used within Energy Psychology, and individulas who are not licensed mental healthcare professionals may however have received certification and be very proficient in using these techniques for success. Such techniques (along with a link to their website) include:
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Thought Field Therapy (TFT)
Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)
Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET)
Be Set Free Fast (BSFF)
Psychology Reversal (PR)
These techniques can also be self-taught, with some being more difficult than others to learn and utilize.
