Herbal Medicine

Choosing a Qualified Practitioner

For help in finding a qualified herbalist, either contact your local health food stores which sell herbal products, or ask for a referral from an herbal store.

You can also contact national associations in the country where you live. Many countries have formed such associations which require stringent prerequisites for members, including a substantial number of hours and clinical experience.

Such organizations include:

American Herbalist Guild (U. S.)

The National Institiute of Medical Herbalists (England)

National Herbalists Association of Australia (Australia)

The following are questions to ask in identifying how qualified and reliable an herbalist is:

1, Ask the herbalist how many years of training they have had, and how long they have been practicing.

2. Ask if they have treated people with your condition before, and for details on how the treatments progressed.

3. Ask if they have indemnity insurance (to cover them, and you, if anything happens).

4. Ask if they have received formal education in herbal medicine and which professional associations they are a member of.
