How Homeopathic Remedies Are Made?

There are precise guidelines which exist for the preparation of Homeopathic remedies. Remedies are made by using the extract of various substances and diluting/vigorously shaking them in water, alcohol or a combination of water and alcohol. These substances can be from in the animal, plant or mineral kingdom. The substance is then finely chopped up and added to a solution (often 90% alcohol / 10% water, though this combination and percent varies). This mixture is then left for a period of time to allow the liquid to absorb the chemical constituents of the substance. The mixture is then poured through a filter to strain it. This extract is then diluted using one of two commonly used scales of dilution:

- Decimal (x) – dilution factor of 1:10
- Centesimal (c) – dilution factor of 1:100

The number 6x or 6c indicates the number of times the remedy has undergone known as potentizationA series of dilutions and vigorous shaking used in the creation of Homeopathic remedies and on which scale. For example, a 6c remedy would undergo the following preparation:

1) 1 drop of solution is added to 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 1c solution

2) 1 drop of the resulting 1c solution is then added to another 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 2c solution

3) 1 drop of the resulting 2c solution is then added to another 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 3c solution

4) 1 drop of the resulting 3c solution is then added to another 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 4c solution

5) 1 drop of the resulting 4c solution is then added to another 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 5c solution

6) 1 drop of the resulting 5c solution is then added to another 99 drops of water or alcohol, and vigorously shaken = 6c solution

Once the solution has reached the required potency (dilution), it is then prepared in various format which can then be purchased by the patient. This can include tablets, liquids or powder. Some remedies come in a one-click container which dispendes one pill per click. The correct remedy potency is prescribed by the Homeopath.

The level of dilution is extreme, which is the reason the remedies are considered completely safe and non toxic. Many Homeopathic remedies are so highly diluted that not one molecule of the original natural substance remains. The vital essence, often referred to as the "memory” of the substance, is what causes the remedy to be effective.
