What Can I Expect During a Treatment?
Acupressure, however, should never be painful, abrupt or jarring. It is important to communicate to the practitioner any pain experienced.
When applied by an experienced practitioner, Acupressure is safe and side effects are rare. It can speed the healing time of many injuries considerably. Acupressure should, however, not be performed on burns, open wounds, bruises, varicose veins, or recently formed scars. During the first few weeks after an injury or operation, pressure should not be applied to the affected area, however, pressure applied to the peripheral area of the injury may stimulate healing of the injury. The acupoints located at lymph areas such as the groin, throat, below the ears, and armpits are more sensitive than others and are treated more gently. This is also true for the face.
Acupressure has successfully been used for various symptoms experienced throughout pregnancy, though it should be used with caution (for example, pressure on the appropriate acupoint may stimulate uterine contractions). Please view “Is Acupressure Safe During Pregnancy” for more details.
During an Acupressure treatment, some people report almost immediate results, including a reduction/removal of pain. Others may need multiple treatments to experience noticeable and lasting results, as initial results may be temporary.
