Acupuncture

What Are the Benefits?

Induction for post due date pregnancies (needling specific points) will cause energy to move to the pelvis, causing disruption in the flow of energy which can result in the stimulation of uterine contractions.

Is Acupuncture Safe for the Elderly

Acupuncture is particularly helpful for elderly people, especially as they are unable to take many painkillers which may interact with other drugs they have been prescribed.

An incontinence study included 15 elderly women who were treated with manual Acupuncture 12 times. Both subjective scorings and objective measurements in the form of leakage in grams were used. Evaluations were performed upon patient discharge and at 1 and 3 months follow-ups. Almost all measurements were significantly improved. Global scorings showed that 12 of the 15 women considered themselves improved even at the 3 month follow-up. (Source: Department of Geriatrics, Rosenlund Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden).

Pediatric Acupuncture
Acupuncture to date is not often used in the treatment of children. There does not appear to be any specific reason for this, although children do tend to have a fear of needles more so than adults. Sinice 2005, however, the Children’s Hospital Boston has operated one of the most active pediatric medical Acupuncture services in the country. According to a recent, year-long study conducted at this hospital, the therapy has proven successful in treating chronic pain conditions without side effects.
