Immune mediated polyarthritis

Original Assessment:
Loss of function in the rear limbs. Unable to walk without balance and weight support in the rear limbs. Hip arthritis. Bilateral hip dysplasia. Degenerative joint disease. Discospondylosis.

Neurological deficits. Severe bilateral carpal hyperextension. Restricted extension of the right hip. Restricted extension of the left shoulder. On gait analysis he was wobbly in the rear due to weakness and ataxic (drunken sailor walk). Heat / inflammation was found at the right carpus and elbow. Pain was evident at the right hock, which was also swollen, the left and both stifles. Mild to moderate atrophy of the right limbs was evident. Moderate atrophy of the left limbs was also found. Excessive muscle tightening was found at the right triceps and quadriceps muscles. Many chiropractic subluxations were found.

Treatment Overview:
TOPS Vet Rehab treatment: acupuncture, animal chiropractic, hydro-treadmill, Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST), massage, passive range of motion, heat and cryotherapy, and strengthening and ambulation exercises.

Treatment Results:
During his treatment, Baron was also diagnosed with kidney failure and systemic lupus, which he succumbed to in January 2002. Prior to this point, he was returned to walking ability and could walk 2500 feet without resting.
